Aston Martin, prestigiosa marca de automóviles deportivos de lujo ingleses, nació en 1913, gracias a Lionel Martin, quien le puso el nombre a que en ese mismo año ganó la carrera de Aston Clinton.

Martin buscó a Richard Bramford para hacer la sociedad y tener los fondos necesarios para iniciar la empresa. Pero nacía en tiempos de la Primera Guerra Mundial y desarrollarse en un ambiente bélico resultó ser casi imposible: apenas si producían 14 coches por año (en comparación a los millones de Ford o GM) en la época del conflicto. Bramford, frustrado por el fracaso, se retiró del negocio y Martin tuvo que recurrir a Luis Vorov Zborowsky, un millonario polaco interesado en el novedoso negocio de los automóviles.

A pesar de la nueva inyección económica, Aston Martin no pudo expandirse ante la repentina muerte de Zborowsky. Esta vez sin nadie a quien recurrir, Lionel Martin estaba a punto de declarar su fábrica en bancarrota. Pero un nuevo mecenas, esta vez la familia Benson, compró la marca y nombró a Martin como Director Técnico. A pesar de que éste perdiera todo poder sobre su empresa, al menos podría verla surgir.

La década de los treinta significó el apogeo de la marca inglesa. Con modelos como el International, Le Mans o el Atom, Aston Martin ingresó a la fama al empezar a ganar sus primeras carreras, un enorme golpe publicitario. Pero el estallido de la Segunda Guerra Mundial paralizó todo tipo de actividad, y su fábrica tuvo que cambiar sus estructuras para construir material bélico.

Concluida la guerra, la familia Benson ya no podía seguir manteniendo la empresa a flote y sería esta vez David Brown quien la salvara del precipicio. A su mando aparece la famosa zaga de los DB (David Brown en siglas): el DB1, DR2, DB3 y el DBR, ganaron varias versiones de Le Mans y la Mille Miglia entre fines de los cuarenta y los cincuenta. El DB4 (lanzado en 1960) alcanzó fama cinematográfica al ser el auto de uso del mítico James Bond. Luego les siguieron el DB5 y el DB6, joyas tan valoradas y exclusivas como sus antecesores.

En 1972, Brown le vende la Aston Martin a Company Developments y empezaría así la decadencia.
